The Rashtrapati Bhawan for all its grandeur and beauty needs some attention. The visitors’ bathrooms are worse than railway station loos. One look at the restrooms and any person with even the slightest sense of hygiene will want to run miles away. It seems the President’s estates is not too bothered about cleanliness for the aam aadmi. At the end of the day, it looks like a case of keeping the house clean and dumping the dirt in the backyard. That apart, the kiosks installed for virtual tours of the President’s house are merely show pieces. Some visitors have tried to kick the machines, a la Indian style, in the hope that it would start working. The staff at Rashtrapati Bhawan will tell you, “This has not been working for a while,” speaking with a sense of pride about at least owning those swanky machines – So what if they are not functional, they are at least there. But someone should tell Mrs Patil that apart from securing election tickets for her son, maybe she should also spare time to look into her own house. After all, they say, God lies in the little details.
