Dalits and Muslims are the two-pronged attack that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is planning to launch his Mission Bihar with. The young Gandhi is taking the Bihar Assembly elections (scheduled for this year) very seriously. His personal staff, along with some former bureaucrats from Bihar, has carried out a detailed study of how best to win the Assembly elections. According to a source who was involved in the survey, the Congress party’s hope is in the fact that both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan are rapidly loosing their base among Muslims and Dalits. A large chunk of these communities have either drifted towards Nitish Kumar or the Congress. The survey also showed that Rahul Gandhi’s forays into Dalit country have found favour with the Scheduled Caste population in the state.

Rahul Gandhi has been advised to focus on Dalit youth. And so Rahul’s programme has been finalized with this in mind. Rahul will be reaching Bihar on February 1, and head straight for Gaya. There he will interact with hundreds of young Dalits. Around 30 to 40 Dalits from every district will be attending this interactive session. It is going be a closed door meeting where only Dalit youth will be allowed an exclusive opportunity to interact with the Congress heir. Rahul will be ready to answer any query that they may have. He will also share with them details of welfare schemes being implemented by the UPA government for SCs and STs. He will appeal to those who are not with the party to join the Congress and those already in the party to work hard so as to inspire more people of their caste to support the Congress in the forthcoming Assembly election.

The state coordinator of Rahul’s visit is busy spreading the word about Rahul Gandhi’s successful interactive session with Dalits in Orissa, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Central Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Rahul Gandhi will also address a Muslim conference in Kishanganj which is a Muslim dominated area. He is also scheduled to visit the historical site of Champaran village and will address office bearers of the Pradesh Congress Committee in Patna. Dalit ki beti and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar (who hails from Bihar) is being flogged as an example of the party’s commitment towards the Dalits. In fact it was Meira Kumar who had once defeated both Ram Vilas Paswan and Mayawati in Lok Sabha by-polls.
