Meanwhile, the BJP and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) of former Union minister Ajit Singh has sewed up an alliance in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has already conceded six out of the eight seats Singh had demanded. RLD is expecting one more seat, though it has given strong indications that it will not walk out of the alliance even if it had to make do with six seats. The Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP as well as the party’s national president Rajnath Singh were not keen on allying with Ajit Singh but the BJP’s Prime Minister-in-waiting L K Advani forced the party to conclude the seat-sharing agreement with the unpredictable Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh.
