BJP Tea Party

The BJP recently organised a ‘high-tea’ where Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley were to brief the media.  It turned out that Swaraj got delayed at Parliament and Jaitley couldn’t make it at all with the proceedings in Lok Sabha still going on. But the BJP were gracious hosts to not delay the high-tea with pastries, rabri and jangri (a south Indian sweet) on offer, even though the leaders failed to show up. Finally when Sushma arrived, she had quite a bit of gossip to share – she even talked about being next to Manmohan Singh during the unveiling of former PM Chandra Shekhar’s photograph in Parliament. It seemed Singh had asked her to help them introduce the nuclear liability bill in Parliament. Sushma informed that during the unveiling she let Singh know that the BJP was ready to dole out its support if the suggested amendments were put in place. Swaraj was known to be close to Chandra Shekhar but that didn’t stop her from talking shop while her one-time leader was being honoured. Sushma surely means business.
