Attacks on churches

Though Yeddyurappa came to power proclaiming that his government would have no agenda other than “development, development and development,” the spurt in attack on the places of worships belonging to minorities speaks otherwise.

There have been as many as 90 reported cases of attacks on churches between 2008 and 2010 and the damage due to these attacks has been estimated at Rs 17 lakh, according to home minister VS Acharya.

He has also revealed that 25 mosques and 21 temples have been attacked by “miscreants” and 461 persons have been arrested with regard to all these cases in the last three years.

But, ask him about conviction or any punishment meted out to the attackers, and he will offer a convenient reply, “I have to verify the records.”  Obviously, there’s been none that has been reported.
